‘Stay-At-Home Advisory in Effect on MONDAY’ Lightfoot Announces, Winking

After cases of Covid-19 surged almost 15% in one week, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot has announced a new stay-at-home advisory to go into effect after what’s looking to be a pretty nice weekend.

“Cases are climbing and hospital beds are filling up,” Lightfoot said Thursday. “We must ensure that the lives we have lost were not in vain, but also let’s not waste the sunshine this weekend.” Temperatures are expected to range from 40–50℉ which, in November, is considered nice for Chicago.

Lightfoot’s advisory allows nonessential businesses such as gyms, bars, and retail stores to remain open, unlike Governor JB Pritzker’s stay-at-home order in March. Chicagoans are “strongly advised” to reduce their exposure by not allowing friends or family members into their homes, but rather to meet and interact with them in public surrounded by strangers and then go home.

“This advisory goes into effect on Monday,” Lightfoot stressed, winking heavily. “So starting MONDAY, I beg Chicagoans to not go to excellent bars like Corcoran’s Grill & Pub in Old Town, Hopleaf in Andersonville, or Exchequer Restaurant & Pub in the Loop. While those restaurants may have a wide variety of local and imported beers, great drink specials, and delicious food options, I cannot endorse enjoying yourself while dining at them AFTER THIS WEEKEND.”
